Attorney Melodie Lopez, partner of Lopez & Humphries, PA in Lakeland, Florida has served on Polk County’s Judicial Nominating Commission after having been selected by the governor.
The Judicial Nominating Commission is responsible for filling the judicial vacancies throughout Florida. There are more than twenty different Judicial Nominating Commissions, including one for the Florida Supreme Court, one for the Statewide Commission for Judges of Compensation Claims, five for each appellate district, and twenty for each circuit court, including the county courts in that circuit.
Judicial Nominating Commission members serve four-year terms and convene when a judicial vacancy occurs due to death, resignation, elevation, or retirement. JNC members will then select qualified individuals who they believe would be a good fit for the bench. Eligible applicants will then be interviewed by JNC members and if selected, recommended to the governor for consideration.
In addition to this accomplishment, Melodie Lopez has a history of success. Some of her other noteworthy accomplishments include:
- Features on Nancy Grace, Fox’s O’Reilly Factor, Bay News 9, Univision, NBC, CNN, and the Tampa Tribune, among others
- Appointment twice as chairperson of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee
- Service as a board member of the Lakeland Bar Association
Furthermore, Attorney Lopez is active in her community, volunteering in projects involving children and veterans, coaching her children’s sports teams, and spearheading events that are close to her heart and important to her community.
