The Purpose of the Lakeland Bar Association
The Lakeland Bar Association, of which Melodie López is a board member, strives to promote ethical conduct, encourage public service, and promote the professional standards of the legal profession. This organization of lawyers works together to remain active in the community and serve those in need of legal assistance of many different kinds.
Many events are held to raise money for important organizations, including Florida Rural Legal Services and Habitat for Humanity. Continuing legal education (CLE) is also very important to the Lakeland Bar Association, and it offers several opportunities throughout the year for members to continue their professional development after their initial admission to the bar.
About Melodie López, Attorney-at-Law
Ms. López has been practicing law for more than 20 years. After earning her juris doctorate from the University of Miami School of Law, she went on to try criminal cases at the public defender’s office and later, the state attorney’s office.
In 2009, she founded Lopez & Humphries, PA with her partner, Kevin Humphries. Melodie served twice as the chairperson of the Florida Bar Grievance committee and was appointed by the governor of Florida to serve on the Judicial Nominating Commission for Polk County.
She is a member of the Polk County Trial Lawyers Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Hispanic Lawyers Association, the Florida Bar Association, and the United States Bar Association and is a board member of the Lakeland Bar Association.
Attorney Melodie López is looking forward to serving her community and peers as the president elect of the Lakeland Bar Association for 2020-2021.
