If you were riding in the back of an Uber and your driver got into an accident, reach out to an Uber accident attorney in Brandon to file a lawsuit and seek compensation for any damages you’ve suffered.

Experiencing a car accident as the driver of a vehicle can hold its own set of challenges, but when you’re a passenger in an Uber and you get injured in an accident, you become vulnerable to the driver. The situation is more complex because you’re not at fault for causing the wreck and you’ll need to figure out how to get your medical expenses covered.

At Lopez & Humphries, PA, our attorneys can support you through this overwhelming situation. A Brandon Uber accident lawyer can investigate the accident to determine who’s responsible for causing your injuries and, if necessary, file a lawsuit to get you the compensation you need for recovery.

Whether the Uber driver or the colliding driver is at fault, we’ll fight for you in court and work to maximize your claim.

Why Uber Accidents Occur in Brandon

Uber accidents can occur for the same reasons as typical car accidents. Usually, drivers are speeding, distracted, improperly turning, improperly merging, failing to yield, driving under the influence, or disobeying the rules of the road in some other way. Uber drivers, in particular, may get into accidents more frequently due to the pressure of their job.

For example, an Uber driver may be more likely to speed because they’re trying to drop off a rider and pick up another one. Uber drivers may also be more likely to drive while drowsy because they’re trying to pick up riders late into the night and early in the morning.

Uber Coverage Liability

Uber drivers are responsible for carrying their own auto insurance when driving for Uber. However, Uber does provide coverage liability for its drivers and their drivers’ passengers when the Uber app is being used. The Uber coverage liability works as follows:

  • When the driver isn’t logged into the Uber app, Uber provides no coverage.
  • When the driver is logged into the Uber app but hasn’t accepted a ride, Uber provides liability coverage for any accident that is the fault of the driver, up to $50,000 per person injured in an accident, $100,000 total injury liability per accident, and $25,000 property damage liability.
  • When the driver has accepted a trip or ride, Uber provides liability coverage up to $1 million.

Uber’s coverage protects the Uber driver, the Uber passenger, and any other drivers or passengers who are injured in the wreck. It’s important to note that this coverage only goes into effect if the Uber driver is responsible for causing the accident. If the colliding driver is at fault, that driver will need to be sued for damages.
